Frequently asked questions
Is it really free? Is there a watermark?
Yes — completely free, no watermark, no signup, no limits. The captions are generated and burned into your video right in your browser, so there is nothing to pay for and no logo slapped on your content.
Where does the AI transcription happen?
On your device. The first time you press Transcribe, the Whisper speech model downloads once (about 40 MB) from HuggingFace’s CDN — after that one-time download, everything runs locally in your browser. Your video is never uploaded to any server.
Which languages does it transcribe?
This tool uses Whisper tiny.en, which is tuned for English speech. It works best with clear spoken English; strong accents, heavy background music, or multiple people talking over each other will lower accuracy. You can click any word in the transcript to correct it before exporting.
What is the difference between this and the SRT Subtitle Generator?
This page creates animated captions burned directly into your video (perfect for Reels, TikTok, and Shorts). If instead you need subtitle files (.srt / .vtt) to upload to YouTube or a course platform, use the SRT Subtitle Generator — it has a full timing editor.
